2024 Annual Economic Report

Commissioned by UMR, “NIH’s Role in Sustaining the U.S. Economy” is an annual analysis of jobs and economic activity supported by National Institutes of Health (NIH) research funding distributed to all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

According to our latest report, published in March 2024, NIH research funding supported 412,041 jobs and generated $92.89 billion in economic activity in FY2023 — or $2.46 of economic activity for every $1 of research funding.
