The following statement from United for Medical Research can be attributed to UMR President David Pugach:
November 28 – “United for Medical Research is very pleased to see the House and Senate agreement on a medical innovation package that includes significant funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). We urge its passage on the House floor this week and subsequent swift approval by the Senate.
“Increased funding for medical research through the NIH is a national priority, and few issues before Congress have received such a high level of bipartisan and bicameral support. NIH research fuels the pipeline of discovery and innovation necessary to prevent, treat and cure our most vexing diseases. This critical funding for the NIH will also help our nation’s premier health agency catch up from more than a decade of flat funding and ensure the United States is on the forefront of medical innovation. NIH research also has a significant economic impact, supporting more than 350,000 jobs across the United States and contributing some $60 billion annually in economic activity.
“By passing the 21st Century Cures Act, Congress can make a difference in the life of every American. We look forward to working with Congress over the coming years on the implementation of, and appropriation of funds for, ‘Cures.’”
